Colorado Golf
Association Returns in Full Force
By Diana Rowe
Don’t
miss the return of the Colorado Golf Association’s annual Two-Day
Rules of Golf workshop and annual meeting to the Denver Merchandise Mart
in conjunction with the Denver Golf Expo.
The Denver Golf
Expo is thrilled to have the support of the Colorado section of the PGA,
CGA, and CWGA, as all come together to capitalize on the largest off season
gathering of the Colorado golf community.
Come join the
CGA, CWGA, and Colorado PGA for its annual event, including the CGA Tee-Off
Luncheon on Saturday, February 9, from noon to 1:30 p.m. featuring lunch
and a keynote speaker (TBD). Board members, course representatives and
other interested individuals are also invited to attend the Two-Day Rules
of Golf Workshop, which CGA officials have scheduled for all day Saturday
and Sunday.
The highlight
of last year’s event, hosting more than 200 people, was probably
the keynote speaker, Joe Beditz, the CEO of the National Golf Foundation.
His presentation featured an overview of the state of the game, where
it’s at and where it’s headed on a local and national basis.
This year’s promises to be yet another great event!

Play
Golf America also returns to the Denver Golf Expo this year. Play Golf
America is the golf industry’s national umbrella marketing campaign,
and is backed by major associations through the golf industry and led
by the PGA of America.
Launched in
2004 to heighten awareness, Play Golf America focus has been to increase
participation among new and occasional adult golfers. Since its inception,
millions of individuals have participated in Play Golf America events
at more than 6,000 golf courses around the country.
Mike Gumrot
of the Colorado Section PGA says, “Our objective is to get not only
new people into the game of golf, but existing players to play more often.
Events such as Play Golf America Day to Family Golf Day allow us to encourage
beginners and core players alike to share the game with their family and
friends.”
“The Play
Golf America Days are free of charge and include free lessons, equipment
vendors, goody bags, and some type of entertainment,” adds Gumrot.
“Last year, we brought in Cobra’s Long Drive Team for an exhibition.
Other Play Golf America programs are similar in format but may be a minimal
charge.”

At the Denver Golf Expo, attendees will have an
opportunity to sample Tommy Bahama Rum.
If
the Tommy Bahama brand, famous for chic, relaxed, island-style golf apparel,
were to come back as a spirit, what brand would they choose? What better
way to express the taste of paradise, Tommy Bahama style, than in an ultra-premium
rum from Barbados?
This year, legendary brand
builders, Sidney Frank Importing Co., Inc., and Tommy Bahama introduced
their spirited Tommy Bahama Rum amid great reviews. For years, consumers
have enjoyed the island lifestyles of Tommy Bahama, from luxury sportswear
to elegant timepieces, fine furnishings to tropical cafes. Now, it’s
time for rum to hit the spotlight in the recent introduction of two Tommy
Bahama rums: Tommy Bahama White Sand (light) and Tommy Bahama Golden Sun
(dark). The rum is easy to spot just look for the Tommy Bahama logo and
palm tree.
Tommy Bahama Rum is distilled
in Barbados at the legendary R.L. Seale Distillery. R.L. Seale has been
producing rum for more than 80 years and four generations. Each bottle
of the Tommy Bahama Rum begins with the best blackstrap molasses and the
cleanest, clearest water naturally filtered through coral stone. Tommy
Bahama’s 80-proof Rums are fermented using specially selected yeast
imported from the wine-growing regions of South Africa – thus their
distinctive flavor.
The tropical Barbados is an
ideal setting for aging of the rum due to its climate, but R.L. Seale
pushed the taste up a notch by aging the rum in small batches and in smaller
oak barrels.
White Sand is aged for a minimum
of two years in oak barrels, producing a clear, light-bodied, smooth mouth-feel,
sweeter rum with a hint of spice. Golden Sun is aged in barrels at least
three years, producing a better tasting, golden liquid. Aromas of vanilla,
brown sugar and apricot greet your nose, with a vanilla and caramel flavor
lingering on your tongue.
While the taste will set it
apart, true to Tommy Bahama brands, the custom-designed packaging will
also set it apart. With its long lines, broad shoulders, and short neck,
each bottle is hand decorated, taking you back to the tiki hut on your
favorite island getaway.
Whether you mix Tommy Bahama
Rum in your favorite island drink – Millionaire Mojito, Cuba Libre
or Pina Colada, or sip it on the rocks, you’ll be sure to enjoy
Tommy Bahama’s dip into the spirits world.
